Raging Waters

"Character cannot be developed in ease and quiet. Only through experiences of trial and suffering can the soul be strengthened, vision cleared, ambition inspired and success achieved."
Author: Helen Keller

On Feb. 16, 2011 I received a call from Cathy, my pre-transplant coordinator at the Toronto General. She called with the following requests:
  1. First they are not impressed with PEI Health Care benefits, apparently they had dealt with them before and they were offering previous patients more than they are offering me. So we need to look into to this again.
  2. My cholesterol level is at 4.3 and that is to high for transplant, so immediately I will have to start on Lipidor
  3. Need to have a mammogram done.
  4. Need to have a pap smear done.
  5. Need to have a TB test done.
  6. Appointment set up for my Angiogram in Halifax on April 4 &5.
  7. Need to have another cat scan done in April and have it sent to Toronto, apparently on the last scan they saw something in my lower lobe on my left lung.
I'm still on the phone and I'm seriously freaking out.  She's like, "Don't worry, if it doesn't show up on the next one it means it was an infection, If it's still there and hasn't grown it's just scar tissue, but if it grows it's cancer. But don't worry about that now, get the rest of the list completed." WOW, so, so easy for her to say!

Over the coarse of the next few days and the week-end I was down .... never experienced this kind of low before.  Wondering if it was all worth the effort.  All I can say is thanks to my sweet husband and his ever wonderful "size 10's" (boots) haha He picked me up and together we each left the house come Monday morning. Alan with his check lists headed to Charlottetown to deal with PEI health and me with my check lists headed to Summerside to see my family doctor and Prince County Hospital.

  1. Getting accepted on the transplant list is only the first step in this long journey. Hopefully soon your new lungs will come.

  2. Hi Rita, it sounds as if you speak from experience.
